T minus 2 months!

We have chosen a departure date and time! We'll be leaving on Sunday, September 13th, from City Hall Park, in Burlington. We plan to leave at 11 am. Mark yer calendars!

The name game

Why hello! Welcome to our new blog...

In just about two months we will be setting out on the adventure of a lifetime, biking from Burlington, VT down to New Orleans, LA. We both plan on keeping journals, but we thought this would be a fun way for you to be able to share and enjoy some of our most interesting and noteworthy stories and pictures from the trip. And who knows, one of our fine readers might have a great comment or insight for us, wherever we may be...

We did a "dry" run last Friday and Saturday, and traveled from Burlington to Montpelier and then back. Dry is in quotes because it was actually quite wet. It was our first time biking together, and was a great bonding experience, both with each other and with our bikes. It was the first time Emily had actually ridden her bike, period. (She finished it the night before!)

In addition to talking about what to pack vs what to leave at home, a few other important things were decided, such as bike names. Emily's bike became Purple Rain, and Margaret's bike became Barbara. In addition, each bike now has a small mascot that will travel on the handlebar bag for the trip, which are awesome old fishing lures purchased at an outdoor flea market in Waterbury.

Lastly, whilst traveling over a river via bridge, Margaret said, "I like bridges," to which Emily responded, "Me too." And thus, the name of this blog was born.

So as you can see, we've got the essential things taken care of.
